Handheld COVID-19 Virus Testing
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has chosen the 3M Molecular Detection System, which uses the Loop-Mediated Isothermal Ampliﬁcation (LAMP) method, as the primary method to be used by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) in testing for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, two serious pathogens that put food at risk during production and processing.

Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) is a single-tube technique for the amplification of DNA and a low-cost alternative to detect certain diseases. Reverse Transcription Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (RT-LAMP) combines LAMP with a reverse transcription step to allow the detection of RNA. In contrast to the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology, in which the reaction is carried out with a series of alternating temperature steps or cycles, isothermal amplification is carried out at a constant temperature and does not require a thermal cycler.

Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value for LAMP tests were 100%, 98.13%, 95.51%, and 100% compared to PCR.

The V-Tech will increase the testing frequency and expand feasible testing environments by allowing a lab-free cycle while maintaining a high level of accuracy. An increase in testing will aide in identifying infected populations and decrease the overall transmission.
Virus Detection Device
The V-Tech 1000 can allow for non-clinical persons to test for COVID-19 as frequently as required. This would allow for testing after possible or suspected exposure and limit testing during a self quarantine or limited possible exposure period. The V-Tech sample testing vial contain small reagents or primers for testing for specific pathogens, such as COVID-19. Potentially additional sample collection vial can be made available to aid in detection and treatment of other respiratory dwelling viruses such as;
